Walton Isaacson Is the Latest Agency to Respond to the ‘Divisive Rhetoric’ of Donald Trump

By Patrick Coffee

Tired of responses to the rise of one Donald J. Trump from the absolutely pathetic and low-energy advertising industry? Maybe you are…but we’ve only just begun. Sad!

The Los Angeles offices of indie agency Walton Isaacson are the latest to take on The Donald after barrettSF, Critical Mass and TDA_Boulder cast everyone from Justin Trudeau to a bunch of fake dog poo to make their respective statements about the man who will be your next GOP presidential nominee (sorry Ted).

Walton Isaacson’s new pro-bono campaign was created to promote CHIRLA Action Fund, a group that describes itself as “the political arm of the largest immigrant rights organization in California” and goes so far as to make specific endorsements in California elections. It’s a response to the ads that Trump’s team has been running, most of which focus on cases of undocumented/illegal immigrants committing crimes.

“Turn Ignorance Around” plays on the idea, which has been strongly implied by Trump throughout his campaign, that one must assume that Hispanic Americans and immigrants double as criminals of one stripe or another…because you never know! And that’s why we have to secure our borders with the biggest wall that Mexico will ever pay for, durrrrrrrrrr.

The campaign also includes a website offering variations on the t-shirts seen in the video above, and there will be an unspecified activation at the 10th anniversary of immigrant rights event “La Gran Marcha” in L.A. on May 1st.

Agency co-founder Aaron Walton says, “This is a powerful message that must be heard. Divisive hate speech on the campaign trail can’t be allowed to control the narrative about America’s vibrant multicultural citizens.” From fellow founder Cory Isaacson: “There’s an urgent need right now to speak the truth and confront negative racial stereotypes. We leapt at the opportunity to help CHIRLA Action Fund combat the growing chorus of racial intolerance and tell the real story of real Latinos who make positive contributions to our society every day.”

Now let’s argue about who bares the largest share of blame for Trump’s rise: the Republican Party “elites”; GOP primary voters; the “Mainstream Media” executives who get more advertising dollars every time they run a story on his latest “I didn’t say that one thing I obviously said on record” statement; President Obama(!); or the pundits who have encouraged both vaguely and explicitly xenophobic discontent among the trolling classes for the last 30-40 years.

THAT should be a constructive conversation. Happy hangover Friday!
