Uber Eats Helps Small Businesses Go Green

By Kyle O'Brien

Uber Eats has made a big splash with its “Uber Don’t Eats” celebrity-rich campaign that touts the service’s delivery of non-food items. But people may not know that Uber Eats also helps out small businesses through a partnership with Visa.

In 2022, Uber Eats, in partnership with Visa and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, launched a b-to-b small business effort called “Grants for Growth.” The program offered $10,000 grants to up to 100 small businesses affected by the pandemic, natural disasters, or other unexpected events across the U.S. The program targeted merchants in 10 cities active on Uber Eats, with a weighted preference for women-owned, veteran-owned, or other diverse-owned enterprises.

This year, Uber Eats has once again partnered with Visa on a b-to-b small business program designed to support small- and medium-sized businesses on the Uber Eats platform in their transition to greener and more sustainable packaging solutions. This time, the effort goes global.

Together, Uber Eats and Visa will make $1 million accessible to qualifying Uber Eats restaurants in London, Madrid, Paris, Los Angeles and New York City to be used toward funding sustainable packaging solutions to help transition to a greener future, which hospitality industry research indicates is a top priority for 2023. It’s part of Uber’s efforts to become a zero-emissions platform by 2040.

Applications opened recently as part of Uber Eats’ Go-Get Zero event in London, providing $10,000 “microgrants,” in the form of credits, to cover the cost of eco packaging.

To help get the word out, Uber Eats and Visa have partnered with Dallas-based The Marketing Arm to create a series of films explaining the program and celebrating several of its recipients.
