After years of success in the U.S., Amazon (AMZN) may finally be delivering the Kindle to the United Kingdom, reports BookSeller. GalleyCat’s Jason Boog, also my co-host on the Menu, writes that “[Amazon] had been working on a wireless setup for the device, but the source claimed the announcement would be ready before the Frankfurt Book Fair in mid-October.”
Speaking of eBooks, Sarah Palin’s memoir “Going Rogue: An American Life” won’t be available in digital format until December 26th, well after the holiday buying season. The hardcover comes out mid-November, and according to HarperCollins chief executive Brian Murray “[t]he publishing plan is focused on maximizing velocity of the hardcover before Christmas, at a time when hardcover sales in the industry are down 15%.” At least he’s being transparent.
Dan Rather’s lawsuit against his former employer CBS has been dismissed by New York State Supreme Court’s Appellate Division. Writes TVNewser, “[the court] has thrown out Dan Rather’s $70 million lawsuit against his former employer, CBS Corp. ‘We find the complaint must be dismissed in its entirety,’ reads the decision. The Appellate court found that the motion court ‘erred in denying the defendants’ motion to dismiss the claims for breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty.'” Rather’s lawyers plan to rebut the decision, but it doesn’t look good for the HDNet reporter/anchorman.
