The Pull Out Method: KFC, Audi Bring Down Controversial Work

By Matt Van Hoven

Two bits today on the scandalous advertising front, one spec and the other legit. Point yon eyeballs down for the infos.

You probably could have guessed that when KFC ran an ad in Australia showing a white dude calming a sea of black cricket fans with a bucket of fried chicken, we Americans would be offended. And we were! So KFC pulled the spot, even though Australians were apparently all like, “whet’s the beeg dayle, oy?” and so forth.

Adland pointed out to us, as did a few commenters, that the Audi suicide ad we posted the other day had been pulled from YouTube. Apparently, it was spec and the brand asked for its removal. Lame. What’s lamer is Citroen did basically the same spot back in 2002. Assuming the kids behind the Audi work weren’t aware, els’t they wouldn’t have copied &#151 exactly &#151 with their piece.

Anyway Audi’s been trying to pull the work from YouTube at every turn, but from what we can tell Adland has no intention of taking it off their servers. Damn the man, sista!
