The Fun Theory: VW’s Foray Into an Idea

By Matt Van Hoven

In a recent talk given to Best Buy employees, Alex Bogusky mentioned that car companies like GM shouldn’t be thinking about how to sell cars. Rather, he said, they should be focusing on what’s good for people. In his example he mentioned a shared bike program like the one CP+B and Trek are setting up in Colorado.

Those remarks were particularly interesting in light of the video above. It’s a campaign piece for Volkswagen, a client CP+B recently announced they would not defend. Watch the clip, in which a set of stairs leading out of a Stockholm subway are turned into a piano. The stairs, which were right next to an escalator, became a fun attraction for commuters and according to the video were used 66% more thanks to the piano feature. Could this have been what Bogusky was talking about?
