The Adventures Of Shares ‘Travel Hacks’ for KAYAK

By Erik Oster

Following two earlier spots in September, creative agency The Adventures Of have released another ad in its “Travel Hacks” campaign for KAYAK with the 60-second “Trips.”

The spot opens with the text, “KAYAK Presents: How to Plan, Manage and Share Your Trip,” followed by a voiceover introducing Melissa, who is going on a business trip but can’t locate her latest trip plans. Melissa hallucinates that a butler on the cover of Butler Quarterly talks to her, asking if she’s too busy to keep track of her trip. Melissa is visibly disturbed as the butler gives her some questionable advice, before the voiceover cuts in, “or you could just use KAYAK Trips,” which it bills as “your very own travel assistant,” allowing users to view, manage and share trip info in one place. Like its predecessors, the ad attempts to use a combination of humor and straightforward product info to pitch the service as the perfect all-in-one trip planner. While the humor ultimately fails, the talking magazine butler schtick comes across as weird and vaguley creepy rather than funny, the ad does manage to communicate why KAYAK is an easy to use option for planning, managing and sharing trip info, even if it overstays its welcome at 60 seconds. We’ve included the two previous “Travel Hacks” spots below for reference.
