Preacher and Tommy John Want Guys to Stop Playing With Their Balls

By Patrick Coffee

It’s been a very testicular month in advertising, what with Clemenger BBDO’s anthropomorphized balls in this Bonds ad and a new digital campaign from Core in Australia urging the nation’s “heroes” to donate their sperm.

Today we get a new entry in that ovular genre from Austin agency Preacher, which is working to promote its client Tommy John. (You may recall that the shop was founded by a trio of Mother N.Y. alumni last March and gathered a group of Texas athletes last August to promote ESPN’s Longhorn Network.)

This new campaign illustrates a classic struggle: dude has balls; balls don’t quite fit properly into drawers; resulting dance is awkward for everyone in the general vicinity. You get it–the title of the soundtrack is “Angst in My Pants,” though that one feels more like an ode to the awkwardness of puberty.

We could debate whether the product in question would really resolve the matter at hand (or whether related fashion crimes are worth the added comfort), but this is definitely a very real problem illustrated simply and effectively.

We’ve been told by certain sources that Lululemon athletic shorts are also good for the task advertised here, but we’ll probably never know because we won’t be entering our nearest yogawear store anytime soon.

(It’s also cute to see a client announce that it likes its own ad on YouTube.)
