Marshawn Lynch Will Eat Your Lunch in GS&P’s New PSA for Common Sense Media

Put the goddamned phone down!

We know, you have to check Fishbowl to see what people are saying about [Insert agency here]’s San Francisco office or making the switch from accounts to PR (don’t do it!).

But NFL superstar Marshawn Lynch can’t stand to see you obsess over that screen. He wants you to know how much he appreciates you for who you really are.

In a new campaign for Bay Area nonprofit Common Sense Media by Goodby Silverstein & Partners, the Raiders running back has some words for young folks who can’t stop texting at the table.

According to the release, Marshawn is “trolling” his victims in these spots, which were shot in collaboration with his own production company BeastMode and did not include any scripts.

As we learn in the second ad, it’s not just kids who do this.

Let’s see him spit that soda out!

This is all part of the #DeviceFreeDinner PSA effort that started last year with a similar series starring Will Ferrell.

“Our devices keep us connected, informed, and engaged, but in today’s tech-driven world it’s important to take breaks,” said group founder and CEO James P. Steyer, adding that research shows kids and adults alike feel addicted to their devices.

Jeff Goodby described Lynch as “a force of nature,” adding, “In these commercials, we attempt to simply get out of the man’s way. It results in great comedy, but also a message that truly connects with a wider audience.”

A final spot stars Jerry Rice, Steve Young, Harris Barton and Ronnie Lott, who call the plays on a green bean plate pass that did NOT go as planned.

“If you’ve ever played team sports, you know that when a team doesn’t work together, it falls apart,” said CCO Margaret Johnson. “That’s as true in a family dinner as it is in a football game.”
