Lil Buck Helps Apple Hype Its Much-Maligned AirPods

Apple’s Airpods: innovation in action or total waste of money? The all-knowing internets cannot agree.

The company, however, has enlisted 28-year-old freestyle dancer Lil Buck to promote them in a new spot entitled “Stroll.”

Set to the Marian Hill song “Down,” the spot features Lil Buck dancing down the streets of Mexico City after inserting his AirPods. Over the course of the ad, his dancing moves from merely impressive to physics-defying. The message is clear, the wireless nature of the headphones free you up to dance like a maniac, although perhaps not as supernaturally as Lil Buck does in “Stroll.”

“Stroll” made its broadcast debut this past Saturday, during Fox’s coverage of the NFC Divisional Round playoff between the Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons. It also debuted online the same day and has thus far racked up over a million views on YouTube.

The contrast of the black and white footage with off-the-wall dancing (literally, at times) makes for a visually interesting ad and perhaps the most direct implication of the “Practically Magic” tagline. It also may unintentionally serve as an opening for AirPods’ detractors, who claim the wireless ‘phones easily fall out of your ears.

Take it away, Conan.
