KC Chiefs Make a Hallmark-style Trailer for the Playoffs

By Kyle O'Brien

The NFL Playoffs are upon us, and the game between the Dolphins and the Chiefs looks to be one of the coldest on record. But the organization’s heart is warm, as a new sappy movie trailer proves.

To mark this special time of year, the Chiefs and agency Barkley have developed a new campaign, “Tis the Postseason,” which builds upon and celebrates the way their millennial fans have embraced the season like a traditional holiday.

Nothing says “holiday” quite like a low-budget made-for-TV-movie, so the team collaborated with director and Funny or Die alum Parker Seaman and SNL Digital Shorts editor Ryan Spears to create a trailer film featuring Hallmark Movie royalty Tyler Hynes and Janel Parrish. “Falling for Football” tells the story of a woman who has lost the “playoffs spirit” after being left at the altar for playoff tickets.

As she wallows in misery, she runs into a man who just might change her outlook on football.

“Falling For Football” also features cameos by current and former Chiefs players Tommy Townsend, Creed Humphrey, Trey Smith, and Dante Hall, as well as celebrities, including Melissa Etheridge, Rob Riggle, Tech N9ne, Kameron Marlowe, and football mom Donna Kelce, and also on-air personalities such as Mitch Holthus and Kimmi Chex.

“The playoffs are an unrivaled time of the season. Because nothing is promised or guaranteed, it created a special feeling of anticipation for players, coaches, staff and fans alike,” said Lara Krug, Chiefs executive vice president and chief marketing officer in a statement. “This year, we leaned into the postseason as its own holiday and are inviting Chiefs Kingdom to celebrate with us. While you won’t find this holiday printed on calendars, the family traditions, stories, recipes, decorations, and made-for-TV movie trailer all emphasize the excitement that Chiefs Kingdon can celebrate together across the globe.”

Viewers may also spot additional campaign elements created by the Chief’s in-house team including hidden Easter eggs in the trailer linking to shoppable Kingdom Keepsakes memorabilia. Fans will be able to shop for additional merch, décor, and collectibles, including the exclusive “Sweet Nectar of the Endzone” candle, online at www.chiefs.com/kingdomkeepsakes, at the Chiefs Pro Shop at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium ad at select local Hy-Vee locations.

The Chiefs also published the Kingdom Cookbook, which is comprised of favorite holiday and tailgate recipes that the team, players, staff and their families love, and will be made available on the Chiefs Mobile app.
