FBN Drops Ads Where CNBC Can See it

By Matt Van Hoven

Fox Business Network has purchased ad space on CNBC in Chicago, New York, LA and other major markets, and will run a spot in that space that reminds viewers that CNBC will be ditching its business coverage to air the Olympic Games.

Ten month old Fox Business News bought media space in the last slot available before the coverage changes to the Olympics (at 4 p.m. CST). It will start airing today and is slated to run through August 22nd.

More after the jump.

FBN anchor Liz Claman delivers the message, which goes something like this, “Hey, Chicago, I’m Liz Claman, the former CNBC anchor, now with Fox Business. When it comes to business, this city doesn’t play games, and neither do you. But in just a couple of minutes, CNBC is going to drop their business news programming. Switch to the Fox Business Network. Real business news…and no games!”

According to the Chicago Tribune, Claman identifies which channel to turn to before the spot ends. More from that story:

“Now, CNBC could perhaps pressure various local cable systems to dump the Fox offensive. ‘If they do, then there’s a second-day story on it,’ (Fox EVP Kevin) Magee said with the chuckle of someone who knows the value of more attention paid to this puckish shot at a rival.”

The spot shouldn’t hurt CNBC too badly, since the 15 or so viewers it’ll lose to FBN will be immediately be replaced by the millions that are jumping between NBC, MSNBC, Oxygen and the internet so as not to miss their favorite events.
