EW Readers Pick ‘Flo’ as Greatest Advertising Icon

By Kiran Aditham

We’re sure this will absolutely not stir up any debate whatsoever, but in any case, the readers of Entertainment Weekly, ever the cognoscenti of the ad industry, have overwhelmingly chosen Flo as “advertising’s greatest icon” as part of the publication’s Big Schill bracket game.

The Progressive Insurance Girl, played by actress Stephanie Courtney, beat out the likes of Old Spice Guy, the Pillsbury Doughboy and the Budweiser Clydesdales on her way to picking up 73 percent of the vote over the course of the Big Shill battle. It did of course help that the annoyingly perky redhead has a decent social presence, what with 2.5 million fans on Facebook who probably treated this like American Idol. Isaiah Mustafa, by comparison, only has 26,000 according to the folks who sent us this news. You can check out a portion of the bracket below and a full version here. It’s almost as exciting as the March Madness one, right?
