Cheil UK and Samsung Introduce Us to ‘The Dolphin Whisperer’

By Patrick Coffee

Samsung’s ads are, obviously, all over the place.

Its most recent campaign by Cheil Worldwide, for example, introduced us to the cartoonish “Master of Payments” while its latest stateside work by R/GA emphasized the fact that this international electronics brand totally gets the young people these days, what with their selfies and their total lack of a defining aesthetic when it comes to contemporary short-form comedy.

This ad, which launched yesterday, comes to us from Cheil UK with a tip of the hat to Matt and Dave of Anomaly London. Like the R/GA spot linked above, it’s a sort of commentary on the weird things that social media and related devices make us do.

This pasty British guy somehow speaks to dolphins and gets famous for it…all via Samsung products, of course.

The question posed by this ad: Who will create the next #PizzaRat, #TheDress or whatever the hell this was? More importantly, who gives a shit? No one who doesn’t work at BuzzFeed will ever make any money on it anyway.

From the YouTube description:

“See the story of two honeymooners, who become unintentional heroes, when their ‘Dolphin Whispering’ antics turn them into a global phenomenon. A story only made possible via the power of Samsung’s connected devices.”

(We’re only slightly upset by the fact that these Europeans were watching an American baseball game, otherwise known as the most boring possible event in the history of events.)

No credits for this spot because Cheil can’t give them to us right now for some geographical reason. But we do know that creative directors Dave Newbold and Jim Eyre drove the work, thanks again to Matt and Dave.
