180 LA launched “Go Make Things,” a new campaign for HP’s all-in-one desktop platform Sprout, with the 60-second spot “Jane.”
“Jane” tells the story of a girl who grows up and loses touch with her creative side when faced with the monotony of everyday adult life. Opening on the young girl face painting her dolls, it follows through her college education and work life, and then ends with her rediscovering her creative spirit with the help of her own daughter. It’s a cute approach, and is surprisingly convincing at incorporating the HP Sprout into the narrative as a tool for Jane to nurture her daughter’s creativity, showing the product in action without bogging down the pace of the spot. The soundtrack, a cover of Supertramp’s “The Logical Song” by the Silverlake Conservatory of Music’ children’s choir is spot-on, helping to dramatize the on-screen action and solidifying the ad’s theme. “Jane” ends with a call to viewers to “find magic again” and “bend the rules of creativity” with Sprout. HP also released “The Logical Song,” a behind-the-scenes look at the Silverlake Conservatory’s recording of the song for the ad.
