Boston’s WHDH has announced it is adding news as soon as its NBC affiliation goes away.
Starting Jan. 1, 2017 the station will debut a 9 p.m. newscast, meaning viewers can watch news on the station from 9 p.m. until 11:30 p.m.
In the mornings, the station will air local news from 5 a.m. until 10 a.m. It’s local news currently runs from 4:30 a.m. until the Today Show airs at 7 a.m. On weekends, the station will show an 8 to 11 a.m. newscast.
With the 9 and the expanded morning hours, the station’s news schedule looks something like this: (M-F) Noon-1 p.m., 4 p.m.-7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.-11:30 p.m. Weekends viewers will see news from 8 a.m.-11 a.m., 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.-11:30 p.m.
“With our expanded newscasts we continue our commitment to informing our viewers and investing in the community,” said vp and GM Paul Magnes. “7News will be more accessible at the times viewers need. We’re especially excited about our new 9PM newscast, because viewing habits have changed. People are recording traditional prime-time programs and watching them later. Now they will be able to watch a live newscast with vital and compelling information they want before they go to bed.”
