Oklahoma Station Relaunches With Focus On Tornado Coverage

KFOR, the Tribune station in Oklahoma City, has relaunched with a new tornado resistant studio and will now call itself Oklahoma News 4.

The NBC affiliate rebrand includes a new set, new graphics and music package.

“This design enables us to serve Oklahomans with breakthrough technology. Whether we’re reporting the news or tracking deadly storms, we will now be working in the most technologically advanced broadcast studio, weather center and newsroom in the state, perhaps the nation,” said news director Natalie Hughes.

The new facility is based on an open newsroom floor plan that will allow reporters, photographers, producers and directors to work together.

The building’s exterior has been reinforced with concrete and steel to survive severe weather conditions.

“We are asking KFOR employees to leave their families, come to work and help protect the public on the worst weather days,” said Hank Hundemer, SVP of engineering at Tribune Media.  “It was imperative that we provide our employees with peace of mind and safety while they are here, working to protect other Oklahomans.”

The Warn 4 Storm center has been completely redesigned and upgraded as well.
