Bruce Kopp Leaving WTHR

Bruce Kopp says he’s leaving Indianapolis NBC affiliate WTHR on Saturday.

“It’s been a great ride stretching nearly 34 years for me here at Channel 13, but it’s time to wrap things up,” he wrote on his Facebook page. The Indianapolis Business Journal reports:

Kopp, 58, will anchor his last WTHR newscast on Saturday—the day his current contract expires.

He told IBJ that WTHR offered him another contract, but he could not agree to its terms and decided to leave.

“Knowing my status here and the schedule, I feel more comfortable moving on,” Kopp said.

Kopp was named weekend anchor a year after joining the station in 1983 as a business reporter. He moved to mornings in 1990 and was moved back to weekends just this March, which GM Larry Delia said was “part of a broader strategic plan.” He started his career at WEHT in Evansville, Indiana.
