Atlanta CBS affiliate WGCL announced Wednesday that it had hired Amanda Davis as the station’s new morning anchor. Davis begins January 2.

Davis, an Atlanta TV news veteran, spent 26 years at WAGA before retiring in 2013. She previously worked at ABC affiliate WSB.

“I’m very pleased that Amanda Davis will be bringing three decades of experience reporting on the major news stories in Atlanta to CBS46. Her passion for local news is unmatched,” said WGCL news director Frank Volpicella.

In May, Davis appeared on a WGCL special where she spoke openly for the first time about the alcoholism that damaged her career and led to at least three alcohol-related incidents including two DUI arrests.

“I’m excited about the opportunity CBS46 has opened up for me, allowing me to join a stellar team of broadcasters on the morning show,” Davis said. “It’s a privilege and a blessing to be able to start the New Year with Atlanta area viewers, providing them with the news, weather and traffic to get the day started. It’s going to be great in the mornings on CBS46.”
