After J.C. Monahan’s Departure, WCVB Announces New Anchor Teams

Boston ABC affiliate WCVB made official what was reported a few days ago. Emily Riemer is moving off the morning show to co-anchor of the afternoon newscasts, taking over for J.C. Monahan who announced earlier this week she was leaving the station. Monahan joined WCVB as a meteorologist in 2001.

Starting Monday, Riemer will co-anchor the 4 p.m. newscast with Ed Harding and the 5 p.m. show with Ben Simmoneau. She will also continue as a medical reporter. Meanwhile, Antoinette Antonio, who has been a part of the weekday morning team since November, has been named co-anchor alongside Randy Price, who has been morning co-anchor since 2009. Antonio will also continue to co-anchor the Noon show with Erika Tarantal.

“Both Emily and Antoinette are outstanding journalists who have contributed greatly to WCVB’s news success over the years,” said station president and GM Bill Fine. “We are confident that they will continue to advance the station’s position as the ‘news and community leader’ in their new assignments.”

“I’m excited about this new opportunity and look forward to joining the evening team to build on the success they’ve achieved,” said Riemer. “To be paired with Ben is like coming full circle, from our days as classmates at Ithaca College to co-anchors at one of best stations in the country.”

“Having been a member of the Eye for nearly four years now, I’ve become friends with Randy, Cindy and Olessa…so it doesn’t feel like coming in to work every day,” added Antonio.
