Regional Cable News Network Going Dark

By Chris Ariens

TVSpy reports that NWCN, a regional cable newschannel, is shutting down in the new year.

The network, which serves Washington, Oregon and Idaho, is owned by TEGNA, with headquarters in Seattle. “It’s all about audience,” said Jim Rose, who oversees NWCN as well as KING-TV, the NBC affiliate in Seattle. Rose says as viewers migrate to mobile and digital for news the TV audience has been dwindling.

NWCN launched Dec. 18, 1995 as one of the first regional news networks in the U.S.
