Seattle Regional Cable Network Going Dark

By Kevin Eck

NWCN, Northwest Cable News, which was launched in December 1995 is going dark in January 2017.

Jim Rose, who oversees KING-KONG and NWCN, along with the stations’ digital properties told TVSPy, “It’s all about audience.”

Rose said while the staff was told about the shutdown yesterday, they were likely not surprised about the move since the audience had been dwindling over the years, something Rose chalked up to viewers migrating from newschannels to mobile devices and other digital outlets to get their news.

Rose also said there are a “fair mount of positions” available at TEGNA’s stations in the region and he was working with them to place employees before the shutdown.

The channel is fed by TEGNA’s stations in Seattle (KING), Portland (KGW), Spokane (KREM) and Boise, Idaho (KTVB).
