Jimmy Fallon Almost Permanently Lost a Finger

By Brian Flood

Last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 40-year-old host finally explained the situation behind his fairly significant finger injury. Fallon said he suffered “ring avulsion,” before warning that you shouldn’t Google that term. Fallon returned last night from what was actually a scheduled two-week vacation, but he didn’t get to spend it the way he originally planned.

“My ring got caught on the countertop when I was going down [after tripping on a rug] and stuck there and pulled my finger off,” Fallon explained. He underwent a six-hour surgery in which doctors removed a vein from his foot and implanted it in his hand. He’s expected to regain feeling in eight weeks and spent 10 days in the ICU.
