“New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson Tells FOX News He’s Running for President” was the headline on FOXNews.com yesterday. But it’s now been changed to “New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson: ‘I Am Running’ in 2008,” and Richardson’s camp is denying FNC’s report.
“The simple truth is the governor made no announcement,” Richardson’s spokesperson told CNN, adding: “We are disappointed the FOX reporter took the governor’s response to a hypothetical question out of context.”
FNC correspondent Carl Cameron conducted the interview. He elicited the “I am running” line in a discussion about Richardson’s Hispanic heritage. “I am Hispanic, which I believe is an asset,” Richardson said. “But I’m not running as an Hispanic, I am running as an American who is proud to be Hispanic.” FOXNews.com has more… (via FishbowlDC)
