Oxygen Launches Content Hub, Weekly Periscope Stream

Oxygen_FunnyGirls_cast-585x352Oxygen launched a new content hub today called Very Real on Oxygen.com. It’s not connected to a specific show but the network as a whole, targeting its young, female demographic with shareable content. Lisa Hsia, Executive Vice President of Digital, Bravo and Oxygen Media said in a statement that:

In furthering our commitment to deliver relatable content, ‘Very Real’ looks to entice and engage millennial women with material that excites them and encourages them to share across platforms. From tips on how to avoid online dating disasters to insight on how to break into a new career, the site will give Oxygen fans their daily fix on the topics that resonate with them most.

So, kind of like Cosmo, but by a television network, and with a strong focus on careers and entrepreneurship in addition to lifestyle and pop culture.

Most interesting is that they plan on a weekly Periscope stream, starting today with their launch. There’ll be an on-set interview with the investors of Oxygen’s upcoming show, “Time to Quit Your Day Job,” including Randi Zuckerberg, Ido Leffler, Lauren Maillian Bias and Sarah Prevette. Nick Cannon of Next Gen Boss (working title) is also on board with sharing his advice on how to manage a team and run a successful business.

Oxygen will start promoting the hub today with on-air promos and graphics directing viewers to the site. If you watch, prepare for hourly GIFs optimized for Facebook on shows and any branded page encouraging fans to share and to start reading. Oxygen joins other networks, like TLC recently, that are getting in the publishing business to give viewers a reason to stick around.
