Scholastic to Publish American Girl Books

By Dianna Dilworth

Children’s book publisher Scholastic has teamed up with American Girl to introduce a new line of books based on American Girl dolls, the first time the toymaker has licensed the rights to publish books.

The book collection will be expansive and include a number of different kinds of books based on the doll series. For instance, Scholastic will include a series of novels based on the brand’s Girl of the Year line. In addition, Scholastic will publish a non-fiction chapter book series inspired by the toymaker’s BeForever line. The collection will also include: treasury books, guided journals, and American Girl-branded yearbooks featuring activities and quizzes. The books will be aimed at readers aged 5-12.

The multi-year license includes the rights to publish print and digital books beginning in January 2017. Scholastic will publish and distribute books in the United States, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia.
