NY Times Says Ted Cruz’s Book Doesn’t Make Bestsellers List

By Dianna Dilworth

tedcruzmemoirThe New York Times says that A Time for Truth: Reigniting the Promise of America, by Ted Cruz has not made its bestsellers list, despite its addition to other lists, claiming that “strategic bulk purchases,” have skewed the book’s sales figures.

Amazon and HarperCollins denied the allegations, both telling Politico that they haven’t seen any unusual evidence of bulk purchase in sales data through any retailer or organization.

The Times explains why the Texas senator’s memoir is not on the list. “Our system is designed to detect anomalies and patterns that are typical of attempts to manipulate the rankings,” a spokesman for the organization explained in a statement given to Bloomberg. “We’ve been doing this for a long time and we apply our standards consistently, across the board. The goal is give Times readers our best assessment of what books are broadly popular at any given time.”
