The New Yorker has published a new short story by Haruki Murakami, and you can read it for free online.
The short story opens as a dramatic reversal of Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. You can read a free copy of Kafka’s masterpiece for comparison. Here’s Murakami’s opening line:
He woke to discover that he had undergone a metamorphosis and become Gregor Samsa.
Murakami’s latest novel will be published in English at some point in 2014. The publisher will make a formal announcement about the book later this year.
