George Washington Book Prize Finalists Revealed

washingtonbookprizeAndrew Jackson O’Shaughnessy, Jeffrey L. Pasley and Alan Taylor are finalists for Washington College’s 10th annual George Washington Book Prize, which carries a $50,000 award.

O’Shaughnessy was nominated for The Men Who Lost America: British Leadership, the American Revolution, and the Fate of the Empire; Pasley for for The First Presidential Contest: 1796 and the Founding of American Democracy; and Taylor for The Internal Enemy: Slavery and War in Virginia, 1772-1832.

The winner will be announced at a ceremony on May 20th at Mount Vernon. Here is more about the judging from the organization’s website: “A jury of three distinguished historians, chaired by Gordon S. Wood and joined by Joyce Appleby and Annette Gordon-Reed, selected the finalists from among forty books published in the past year.”
