Fox and Temple Hill Secure Film Rights to Ben Mezrich’s Woolly

Ben Mezrich (GalleyCat)Fox and Temple Hill have picked up the movie rights to Woolly: The True Story of the De-Extinction of One of History’s Most Iconic Creatures by Ben Mezrich.

For this project, Mezrich wrote about a group of scientists who band together to try to resurrect a woolly mammoth from extinction. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Atria Books, a Simon & Schuster imprint, will release the book in 2017.

Here’s more from Variety: “Geneticist George Church’s lab at Harvard University successfully copied genes from frozen woolly mammoths last year and added them into the genome of an Asian elephant. It was the first time that woolly mammoth genes have been functional since the species went extinct about 4,000 years ago.” (via The Boston Globe)
