Showtime Adds CNN Vet as New Doc, Unscripted Exec

Showtime is building the ranks of its unscripted team. The network has tapped CNN vet Vinnie Malhotra for a new role in the department, naming him senior vp documentary, unscripted and sports programming. (THR)

Under the deal, Malhotra will report to Gary Levine, Showtime Networks Inc.’s president of programming and the one who made the announcement. Malhotra will work closely with Stephen Espinoza, exec vp and general manager of sports and event programming, on the network’s unscripted and documentary sports programming. He will oversee the development and production of the network’s growing slate of original unscripted and documentary programming, as well as all future documentary theatrical releases. (Variety)

Malhotra most recently was svp development and acquisitions at CNN Worldwide. The former ESPN exec and ABC News producer (he was in the convoy in Iraq with Bob Woodruff when an IED struck in 2006, critically injuring Woodruff) joined CNN in March 2012. There he created, launched and headed CNN Films, where he managed day-to-day operation and worked directly with filmmakers to develop original projects. (Deadline)
