It’s been a while since we’ve heard from the somewhat press-shy VaynerMedia, which once employed a guy named Matt V as its branded content specialist.
Snapchat master Gary Vaynerchuk recently announced that he’s entering the publishing business with “three new content hubs that are ‘independent’ but backed by brands including Axe and GE.,” and this week he promised that his company and another one called Coyote Logistics will collectively add 235 jobs to the Chattanooga area by opening new offices there.
Today an agency spokesperson confirmed another change: VaynerMedia has hired Steve Babcock, former VP/executive creative director at CP+B Boulder, to serve as chief creative officer.
Babcock will be the first person to hold that position at VaynerMedia, and we hear that he plans to relocate from his home base in Boulder to run the agency’s creative efforts from its New York City headquarters.
The new CCO started his career in the mail room at Havas in Salt Lake City and then landed a copywriting gig at CP+B, where he spent six years and got the ECD promotion in 2011 after working on the Ozzie/Bieber campaign for Best Buy. He later moved to Evolution Bureau or EVB in Boulder, where he stayed for a couple of years before going freelance as the agency named a new ECD and general manager for its Colorado office.
Details are a bit sparse at the moment as to Babcock’s specific responsibilities at VaynerMedia New York; the agency never publicizes its client list and rarely promotes its own work. But we hear everyone is thrilled to welcome him aboard.
