WXIA GM John Deushane Retiring After 47 Years in Broadcasting

WXIA and WATL president and general manager John Deushane is retiring from local TV after after 47 years in broadcasting.

Deushane came to WXIA in June 2010 after working as chief operating officer at Granite Broadcasting Corporation for 18 years. He started his broadcasting career in 1976 at WEEK in Peoria, Ill., and would later become its president and general manager. He also operated stations in Fresno, Calif., Austin, Texas and Columbia-Jefferson City, Mo.

“It’s been a true blessing to work with the talented journalists and professionals at 11Alive. The past 13 years have been more of a gift than a job”, said Deushane.

Deushane has served on numerous Atlanta non-profit boards including the Atlanta Business League, Cure Childhood Cancer, Junior League of Atlanta, North Point Community Church, and the Georgia Association of Broadcasters where he was Chairman and recognized as the Broadcaster of the Year in 2016. Deushane graduated Magna Cum Laude from Bradley University where he also served as an adjunct professor.
