By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

WUSA has hired former ESPN personality Mike Wise.

He will join the Tegna station in Washington, D.C., as a sports columnist, feature writer and sports TV expert.

“Mike brings his own distinct perspective to sports here in Washington, and other important issues we face in our community,” said P.J. O’Keefe, WUSA content director. “His ability to engage in conversations on culture, combined with his deep local roots, support our mission to inform and inspire, and to make a positive impact.”

Wise comes to D.C. from ESPN’s Undefeated, a digital show covering sports, race and culture. Prior to that, he worked as a columnist at The Washington Post sports page from 2004-2014 and The New York Times. He has also authored two books.

“Since I left the Post, I’ve missed just one thing: waking up and being a part of the real D.C. conversation. I’m excited to be joining what I consider to be the most innovative local news team in the country. Taking on this new role at WUSA9 gives me an opportunity to do great work in the city I love and tell great stories, while reconnecting with some of the people and players that make up the sports and life landscape that make D.C. great. It’s good to be back,” said Wise.

Wise, his wife and children live in Southern Maryland.
