WTVQ Launches ‘Good Day Kentucky’

By Aneya Fernando

WTVQWTVQ, the Lexington, KY, ABC affiliate, is launching a new locally produced morning show, “Good Day Kentucky”. The show will break away from traditional news and instead focus on “the best the Bluegrass has to offer.”

“Good Day Kentucky” will be an extension of WTVQ’s other morning show, “Good Morning Kentucky” and will include much of the same on-air talent, including anchors Doug High and Lauren Gawthrop, plus meteorologist Michael Estimé. The new show will feature local guests, cooking segments and a recurring segment known as “Michael on the Move,” which follows Michael Estimé live and on‐location as he highlights local events and businesses around Central Kentucky.

“Good Day Kentucky” will mark the first time in the Lexington market that a local news program has been shot almost entirely on a virtual set.

“We feel that virtual sets are the future of news programming and ‘Good Day Kentucky’ is an exciting step forward for our station and our market,” said WTVQ news director Steven France, who has overseen the implementation of the new technology.

“Good Day Kentucky” premieres on Monday at 9:00 a.m.
