WTTG says it’s adding a 6:30 p.m. newscast in July to cover the presidential election.

“This election is unlike any we have ever seen,” said news director Paul McGonagle. “It deserves unconventional and original political reporting. ‘5 @ 6:30’ on FOX 5 DC will be THE local, political show to watch in DC.”

On July 18, Shawn Yancy and Jim Lokay will host the show featuring contributions from political reporter Tom Fitzgerald and Ronica Cleary.

The Fox-owned station will also broadcast live from both the Republican Convention in Cleveland and Democratic Convention in Philadelphia. The Old Ebbit Grill will be the location for interviews with local and national newsmakers.

The show brings WTTG’s total number of local news produced each week to 59.
