WSLS morning anchor Patrick McKee stepped down as an anchor at the Roanoke, Va., NBC affiliate to take a job behind the camera.
McKee told viewers about the move into producing a couple of weeks ago, saying it was “a little terrifying,” but that he was ready for a “normal sleep schedule.”
“After 21 years on television, I’ll be stepping behind the camera,” he wrote on Facebook. “Today was my last newscast on television. Thursday and Friday, the midday newscast moves online. I’ve been looking for a couple of years at a way to have a more normal life. After 16 years of 2:30 a.m. alarm clocks, I’m really going to enjoy a 9 to 5 life.”

Before joining WSLS in 2006, McKee worked at KSWO in Lawton, Okla.
