Cindy Ward started her TV career in Stuebenville, Ohio doing gas reports. She retired this week from South Bend, Ind. CBS affiliate WSBT after 40 years in TV news.
“While most people in our community know Cindy Ward for her anchoring responsibilities, to us at WSBT, she’s most famous for the leadership she provides in our newsroom,” said WSBT president and GM Sally Brown. “Every day, Cindy dives headfirst into the news. She cares deeply about our community and the stories that affect us. Simply put, Cindy is a wonderful person and an excellent journalist, and WSBT will miss her tremendously.”
Ward anchored at WSBT for nearly 30 years. During her long career she’s anchored the weather, done sports and even worked as a pitch-woman for a furniture store. The station said she plans to “enjoy spending her new-found time with her family, including her four young grandchildren.”
“Cindy has done her part and more than that,” added Todd Schurz, president of WSBT’s owner Schurz Communications. “And it’s with profound sense of thanks and gratitude that I hope she and Bob have a wonderful retirement together and I still expect to see them around.”
