WSAW-WZAW in Wausau, Wis., has raised $104,714 for The Neighbors’ Place, a local food bank serving Marathon County.

The station’s efforts will help the food bank provide more than 300,000 meals to those struggling to put food on the table as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to take a toll on people’s incomes and jobs.

“In these unprecedented times, it is always comforting to know that our viewers care and try to make things better for those in need,” said general manager and vice president Al Lancaster. “We live in a very special place.”

The campaign kicked off on April 18 with a one-hour televised special, Singing for Their Supper. After the success of the initial special, the station extended the campaign through April 28 to allow people across Wisconsin to donate. $82,000 was raised in that time period.

“The people of north central Wisconsin stepped up in a big way,” said director of creatives services and promotion Adam Donner. “The community’s generous support during the campaign’s 10-day span was nothing short of spectacular.”
