Richmond, Virginia ABC affiliate WRIC is launching a 4 p.m. newscast on September 12.

“The desire for local news on all platforms is as strong as ever,” said WRIC general manager Larry Cottrill. “Launching the 4 p.m. news helps us reach even more viewers with the news that really affects their families and communities.”

The station also hired Heather Hope (pictured) to co-anchor the newscast alongside Eric Philips (left). Hope comes from KFMB in San Diego.

“With Heather, we’ve added even more journalistic experience to our already highly accomplished anchor team,” said news director Shane Moreland. “Deanna, Eric, Heather and John contribute exceptional knowledge and integrity to our news product.”

The new show means Dr. Phil moves to 3 p.m. and Jeopardy re-runs at 12:30 p.m. will be replaced by The Drew Barrymore Show. The station also said Deanna Allbrittin, Eric Philips, and John Bernier will continue to anchor the 5 to 6:30 p.m. newscasts.
