WRGB Anchor Suspended After Erratic Saturday Night Newscast

By Kevin Eck

Viewers of Albany, N.Y. CBS affiliate WRGB were concerned for anchor Heather Kovar after she appeared disheveled, seemed to slur her words and had trouble focusing during Saturday’s 6 p.m. newscast.

While she started the newscast by stumbling though a story about an explosion at a natural gas facility in Oklahoma, she then appeared on camera saying,  “Alright! So, well, hello! Good afternoon! Like, I was telling you this morning, if you watched us this morning,” she said. “I told you. You know what? Today. What a beautiful day outside. It is just amazing.”

WRGB told TVSpy, “Heather has been suspended pending an internal investigation.”

Kovar was replaced by weekday anchor Greg Floyd on the 11 p.m.

One person on Facebook wrote, “Nobody knows what was really going on and there could be serious medical or life issues involved, therefore no one should be cruel or mocking. We just don’t know what we don’t know about it or her.”

Kovar has worked at CBS6 for more than five years and previously spent time at WTEN in Albany, WKTV in Utica, N.Y., RNN in Kingston, R.I., and News 12 Connecticut.
