Jim Mertens has been named evening anchor for Moline, Illinois ABC affiliate WQAD.
Mertens has been the morning anchor for almost a decade. He started at WQAD in 1995 and will replace Jason Fechner who is heading to Indianapolis.
News director Alan Baker told staffers in an email, “After 9 short years of setting his alarm at 2am, I am happy to announce that Jim Mertens will be able to start sleeping in more often now.”
He starts his new gig May 11 and will anchor the 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. alongside Denise Hnytka.
