WPXI Sports Anchor Alby Oxenreiter Recovering from Heart Surgery

By Kevin Eck

Pittsburgh NBC affiliate WPXI has responded to questions about where sports anchor Alby Oxenreiter is and why he has not been seen on television recently.

Oxenreiter is recovering at home after having open heart surgery one month ago. He developed a major blood infection that traveled to his heart. He had two heart valves replaced, but other complications from the surgery have delayed his recovery. He is making progress, but the station said he has a long road ahead of him for recovery.

The station said Oxenreiter is very grateful for the prayers, thoughts and well-wishes that have kept his spirits positive during this difficult time.

Oxenreiter has been a fixture in Pittsburgh sports for decades and is one of the longest-running local sports anchors in Pennsylvania. He joined WPXI in 2006 and has also worked at WTAE and WPGH.
