By Andrew Gauthier

In a move that has been anticipated for a few years now, longtime WPTV anchor Jim Sackett, who has been the face of the the West Palm Beach station for 33 years, announced this week that he will retire at the end of the year (video above).

He will be succeeded by Michael Williams, who left Miami’s WFOR earlier this year to join WPTV. Williams currently anchors WPTV’s 5:30 p.m. newscast but will transition into Sackett’s marquee role in the coming months. On June 1st, Williams will begin co-anchoring WPTV’s 11 p.m. newscast alongside Kelley Dunn, a 25-year veteran of the station, and then take over Sackett’s longtime 6 p.m. spot in December.
