WPIX Brings Longtime New York Anchor Back for New Show

New York Tribune-owned station WPIX says it’s bringing back a longtime New York anchor for an added weekday 6:30 p.m. newscast.

Starting in mid-January, Brenda Blackmon will join Kaity Tong for the only 6:30 to 7 p.m. newscast in the market.

“Brenda is one of the most recognizable and talented journalists in the market, and we are thrilled to pair New York news icons Brenda and Kaity at the anchor desk of PIX11’s newest newscast,” said WPIX president and gm Rich Graziano. “With such a rich history in the market, Brenda and Kaity will be a powerhouse anchor duo at 6:30 p.m., the only local news in New York.”

Blackmon worked at WWOR for 23 years until Fox replaced the 10 p.m. newscast with Chasing New Jersey in 2013.

“It’s great to be home!” said Blackmon. “I’m looking forward to returning to the air in New York, covering the news and events that affect our communities and neighborhoods.”
