Jordan Schuman, a multimedia reporter from WPDE in Florence, S.C., was remembered at a memorial service today in her native Long Island, N.Y.
The 22-year-old was killed in a car accident Wednesday night in Waxhaw, N.C., as she was on her way to a friend’s house to spend the holiday.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol said Schuman died in a three-vehicle crash after she drove through a stop sign.
“Every time we report on a deadly crash, we know we’re reporting on someone’s wife, brother, daughter or best friend. There’s always a human side to the tragedy,” WPDE reported on their website.
Schuman, University of Miami graduate, joined WPDE in March. She was the step-daughter of Peter Schacknow, a senior producer at CNBC’s Breaking News Desk.
On Sunday night, the hashtag #cheerstojordan was trending on Twitter, with an outpouring of remembrances from those who knew Schuman.
