On Thursday afternoon, WOIO meteorologist Jason Handman set a world record on live TV. 19 Action News’ early evening newscasts regularly checked in on Handman as he worked to set the Guinness World Record for most neckties worn at one time. As the night fell in Cleveland, Handman shattered the existing Guinness record and finished with a tie tally of 131.

Local attorney Tim Misny and Cleveland councilman Zack Reed served as Handman’s official witnesses as he documented the entire ordeal on video. Handman has submitted the video to Guinness for official confirmation. All together, the ties weighed in at 12.5 pounds.

“My neck is sore but it was completely worth it.” Handman said. “It has always been a dream for me to become a world record holder and I couldn’t be happier that it happened right here in Cleveland.”

Handman is WOIO’s morning meteorologist. He needed a minimum of 50 ties to set the Guinness World Record so, pending official confirmation, 131 is a mark that should stand for quite some time.
