Why WNYW Is Broadcasting From Fox News Channel

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

WNYW, the Fox-owned station in New York, has had a rough couple of days.

The station’s phone and internet service went out at some point Tuesday, so newscasts were forced to relocate to Fox News Channel 20 blocks away, in midtown Manhattan.

Fox 5 didn’t air a 5 p.m. newscast on Tuesday. And at 10 p.m last night, Fox News anchor Shepard Smith anchored the show instead of the regular Fox 5 anchors. The station called it a “special edition” of the newscast. Smith, who has been at Fox News since 1996, was a former local news anchor and reporter at WJHG, WBBH, and WSVN.

This morning Good Day New York anchor Rosanna Scotto posted a photo from their temporary headquarters.

“We are glamming up at the mothership because we have no internet or phones fox5ny ! So check out our new set at 7 AM #gdny,” she said.

It’s unclear when the internet will be back. The station’s building has been undergoing construction.
