He was WNBC’s San Juan Bureau reporter chronicling events after Hurricane Maria. Now, Julio “Gaby” Acevedo is moving to New York to cover the Tri-State.

Acevedo starts as WNBC’s newest general assignment reporter on November 2.

“His terrific ability to tell stories connected deeply with our audience. Now, I’m excited to see that happened every day and I look forward to Gaby delivering important stories that matter to our audiences throughout the Tri-State, particularly in those communities that may not be getting the attention they need and deserve,” said Amy Morris, WNBC vp of news.

The National Puerto Rican Day Parade Committee honored him as an ambassador in 2018.

He joined the station in 2017. Prior to that he was a news correspondent for the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee in London and Rio De Janeiro.
