Kontji Anthony is leaving Memphis, Tenn. NBC affiliate WMC after nearly 17 years.
WMC vice president and general manager Jonathan Mitchell told the Daily Memphian that Anthony said the Covid pandemic got her thinking about her future.
“She came and chatted with me, and the pandemic got her thinking about what she wanted to do with her life going forward,” Mitchell said. “She isn’t the first person I’ve talked to at our station or in our industry as a whole about this. The pandemic has caused people to want to reevaluate what they want to do.”
Anthony joined WMC in 2005. Her last day will be April 15 when her contract expires.
“I leave Action News 5 with deep appreciation for my coworkers—and fond memories of the many extraordinary relationships cultivated throughout the years that are forever etched in my heart,” she said.
Anthony started her career as an assignment desk assistant and field producer for WCBS in New York. She moved into reporting at KTVO in Kirksville, Mo. She’s also worked at KBAK in Bakersfield, Ca., KOVR-KMAX in Sacramento and WNCT in Greenville, N.C.
