WMAQ News Director Named Head of Digital at WTVJ

Miami NBC-owned WTVJ and Telemundo 51 have named Debra Juarez vp of digital for both stations.

Juarez will leave her position as news director at NBCOTS Chicago station WMAQ at the end of 2016. Starting January 2017, she’ll oversee digital content and report to the GMs of of both Miami stations.

“Debra is a newsroom strategist. She knows how to utilize content and disseminate news to local audiences, regardless of language,” said Larry Olevitch, president and GM of WTVJ. “Her extensive background in local broadcast will position her as a tremendous asset to our stations’ digital operations, which for the first time will be carried out as a duopoly to meet the needs of our diverse communities.”

“Debra is no stranger to our market or the Telemundo family and I’m thrilled that she is joining our duopoly operation,” added Jorge Carballo, President and General Manager, Telemundo 51. “Viewers in our market are savvy digital users and by adding Debra to our teams, she will help our stations deliver the information that our viewers want and how they want it.”

An NBC spokesperson told TVSpy the station group is looking for a new ND for WMAQ.
